Volte Alte
The cortile at Volte Alte seen from above: the well, the brick paving, the lawn and the gravel terrace

The spaces

The rooms of the villa and the park

The villa is built around the arcaded cortile. On the ground floor is the loggiato; on the first floor, the gallery, the rooms and the loggia; and outside, the gravel terrace with the cedar, the lawn and the garden.

Ground floor

The cortile and the loggiato

The arcaded cortile at Volte Alte by day, with its herringbone paving and arched doorway

The arcaded cortile

In the cortile, with its two storeys of arches and its herringbone brick paving, we can set up the ceremony, and in the evening we light it up.

Beneath the loggiato at Volte Alte: metal armchairs, the stone portal and the inscription on the wall

The loggiato

Beneath the arched portico that lines the cortile we organise the aperitivo under cover, beside the stone bench where, in the early seventeenth century, Agostino Chigi had his own coat of arms carved together with that of his wife, Olimpia Piccolomini Carli.

First floor

The gallery and the rooms

The first-floor gallery at Volte Alte, with its arches, ochre vaults and terracotta floor

The gallery with the ochre vaults

At the top of the stairs is the first-floor gallery, with its terracotta floor, onto which the rooms open. Under its vaults we can also set the table for dinner.

A room at Volte Alte with frescoed vaults, velvet sofas and a low table

The rooms with the velvet sofas

The first floor has three intimate rooms, and some still keep their vaults frescoed with grotesques, stuccoes and painted medallions. Here we welcome guests before and after dinner, and around the long table we can arrange a meeting behind closed doors.

The first-floor loggia at Volte Alte: the arches facing the hills, the stone bench and the terracotta floor

The loggia

At the end of the gallery the loggia opens onto the hills through its arches. At sunset this is where you can take your photographs.

Outside

The terrace and the park

The great cedar at Volte Alte, backlit, with small tables on the gravel at sunset

The terrace and the cedar

In front of the villa is the gravel terrace, with its metal tables and chairs for the aperitivo. In the evening we lay dinner under the branches of the cedar and light up the façade.

The garden at Volte Alte with round hedges and metal tables, and a bell tower in the distance

The lawn and the garden

The lawn slopes down from the terrace to the boundary wall, and the garden surrounds the villa with paths between the hedges and unexpected views, where guests can stroll between one part of the party and the next.
